6 Things to Leave in the Old Year
If you're looking for an easily digestible piece, this isn't it. If you're willing to be challenged and grow, keep reading. Here are six things you need to leave in the old year:
1. Your job.
If you're working at a mundane job that literally makes you feel purposeless, leave it. What do you actually want to be? What do you actually want to do? My father always asks me "if money were no option, what would you be?" Your answer is the job you should pursue/ build. When you're passionate enough about what you do, the money will follow. Don't be a slave to the dollar. Find the job that makes you jump out of bed in the morning full of life.
2. Your wardrobe.
How do you feel when you leave the house? If you don't feel like a model at New York Fashion Week then something's wrong. I used to think you only dressed up on occasion. Wrong. Everyday you should feel put together. You dress how you want to feel. If you leave the house looking like a bum (although comfortable) you feel like one, too. Treat yourself to a few staple items and put some effort into how you look. I guarantee you you'll feel better.
3. Your spouse?
If you didn't know what you guys were all of 2016, chances are you won't be finding out in 2017. Comfort zones are hard to leave. Leave them in theirs in 2016 and open up the space for someone better in 2017.
4. Your negative habits.
Do you procrastinate? Do you snooze for an hour every day? Are you flaky? Can you never complete a project? Do you pay your bills late? Whatever your habits are, if you know they need changing- change them. It's as good a time as any to take better habits into 2017. It takes an average of 66 days to form a habit, get started on your better habits and leave your old ones behind.
5. Fear of failure.
Spoiler alert, you're going to fail. You're going to fail over and over, actually. You're likely to fail at everything you do, until you don't. Ask any master of any thing how hard it was to get to where they are. You're going to fail before you succeed. So if your fear of failure holds you back from action, you will never succeed.
6. Self Hate.
2017 holds no space for negative self talk, self doubt or self hate. Instead of looking at everything you think is wrong with your body or your life, look at the positives. And if you think there's something about you that needs actual changing, change it. If you think you can stand to lose an extra few pounds, lose them but leave the negative comments behind. Instead of calling yourself mean names, list the positives and how you can improve them. Talk to yourself the way you'd talk to your best friend. You wouldn't want to hurt them, so why is it acceptable to hurt you?
New year, same you, new changes. The start of the new year always motivates us to be better, it feels like a restart button so take advantage and be a better you! Happy new year, I hope it brings you joy and success in all that you do.
