Rumored Netflix Movie Starring Lupita Nyong'o and Rihanna
If you are anything like the typical pop culture junkie, or an avid social media user, then you have probably heard about a rumored upcoming Netflix movie starring Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna. Nyong’o, most known for 12 Years a Slave and Queen of Katwe, has been working tirelessly to further make a name for herself evident by her feature role as the voice of Maz Kantana in the upcoming Star Wars television series. Rihanna, a Barbados-born pop singer, has a popular radio hit, “Love on the Brain”, but has been laying low in the music scene as of recent. Although with the announcement of the Netflix original movie, Rihanna has been in the film spotlight.
Many reports say the film Netflix seeks to create is a response to the internet’s desire to have a film starring Nyong’o and Rihanna after a photo of the two sitting net to each other at the 2014 Miu Miu fashion show went viral. With reports claiming Netflix outbid numerous companies interested in producing the movie, it is reported Netflix felt it vital to stay true to the original vision social media users had. The photo of the two caught the attention of each, which made them confirm their interest, via Twitter, in a film starring alongside each other.
While Netflix has yet to confirm or deny this rumor, it is strongly believed that the reports of the upcoming flick are true. Additionally, while the film is supposedly in production at Netflix it brings a new power to social media. The film, desired by many on Twitter after the photo of Nyong’o and Rihanna resurfaced after first appearing on Tumblr, marks a successful social media movement even if the movie is just a rumor it has sparked the interest of the media. With the media being one of the most influential platforms, it is hypothesized that the highly anticipated collaboration between Lupita Nyong’o and Rihanna will happen in the future if it is not happening now.
