Rihanna slays Paris Fashion Week with her ‘Puma x Fenty’ line
The Barbadian super-star took her talents to Paris Fashion Week to debut her latest collaboration with Puma. Last year she presented her line in New York, but this time around, she used the bourgeoisie of Paris, France to really make a statement.
“It’s a dream for me to be able to present my second collection of Fenty Puma by Rihanna in Paris,” she said during a press release. The platinum singer admitted to approaching this season very differently. “I felt the theme and concept was best suited for one of my favorite cities, Paris.” And she didn’t lie.
The songbird’s debut line was very Marie Antoinette meets grunge workout wear according to Billboard. The antique vibes that the presentation gave off paired perfectly with the grandiose hotel that she decided to host it at. The models cascaded down a diagonal runway to modern renaissance music.
Besides the asethics, Rihanna did a good job at balancing feminism and masculinity in her line. She is known for her ability to get away with wearing ball caps and formal gowns. The line featured a lot of pale pinks, olives, and whites. The most distinctive pieces that her models sported were the elongated hoodies, bustier, and embroidered du-rags. The floral prints, and chiffon lingerie fabrics added a hint of sexiness, but what quickly shaken up by the swaggering sweatpants and thick soled sneakers. A few of her models ditched the athleisure wear, and sported white jumpsuits accompanied with pearl chokers and the infamous ‘dad hat’.
Rih Rih did more than just turn a couple heads with her debut line; she also gained a couple of coins in her pocket. According to Market Watch, Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma allowed the company’s fourth-quarter sell to rise 11.5 %. She already snagged over $2 million dollars with her Puma Trainer’s which are always sold out. Her sky-rocketing sales didn’t stop her from putting on a great show. She reminded her team of this before she hit the stage, telling everyone, ‘Let’s do this. Let’s make some money’.
Having her line debut at Paris Fashion Week wasn’t enough for her. She teamed up with Tidal to have the show be live-streamed exclusively for Tidal members. Talk about a major win.
The show ended with Rihanna taking the runway in a two-piece get up with a cascading train and a diamond choker. Talk about legendary.
