Lil Kim: Fashion Icon
Every June the CFDA Fashion Awards honors designers and influencers that have contributed their talents in the industry. One of the highlights of the award ceremony is the style icon award where the committee honors someone in pop culture who has influenced and impacted the fashion industry. It is still unsure who the style icon will be for 2017 but I have one nominee who I believe should win the honor from the CFDA Fashion Awards.
Lil Kim is not only a legendary hip hop artist but she is also a style icon. Her influence on the fashion industry and the music industry alike is seen on every new pop artist who hit the scene. From Nicki Minaj to Rihanna, Lil Kim’s influence has been highlighted with their style and charisma. The first time I saw Lil Kim in the “Crush on You” music video, I instantly fell inlove. The colorful furs and spunky hair to match put the risk-taking fashion icon in her own lane. Fashion houses from Versace to Armani use Lil Kim as a source of inspiration or a muse. Her avantgarde looks, thanks to her stylist Misa Hylton, have created amazing moments in fashion history that set her apart from her fellow rappers. With Lil Kim’s pulse on the fashion industry, she could model for amazing brands such as Baby Phat and rub shoulders with fashion elites like Marc Jacobs. Of course, she also had her own clothing brand, Hollywood, in the mid 2000s. Moreover, who could forget her amazing work with iconic photographer David Lachapelle? Lil Kim is never afraid to revamp her look and experiment with her style. There are many reasons Lil Kim should be this year’s style icon honoree but I let her style speak for itself. Check out these awesome photos of Lil Kim’s style throughout the years.
